Here are my recommendations for the 8 best beaches in Sri Lanka. I’m starting with the most secluded beaches because that’s more my vibe.
1. Nilaveli, Trincomalee District
Nilaveli Beach, located on the northeast coast, is a pristine beach that offers a tranquil and secluded beach experience. It’s 80km of white sand as far as the eye can see and will leave you in awe with it’s untouched natural beauty. If you like escaping the crowds, this is the place for you. Another plus point is the diving opportunities here as it’s known fro it’s coral reefs. You can also take a boat trip to Pigeon Island National Park for unparalleled snorkeling experiences amidst vibrant coral reefs and exotic marine life.
2. Koggala, Galle District
Koggala Beach, located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, is where traditional stilt fisherman add a touch of cultural charm to the tranquil shoreline. Marvel at the breathtaking vistas and capture unforgettable moments against the backdrop of swaying palms and turquoise waters. The area is surrounded by lush greenery and is known for its calm waters, making it a great spot for swimming and kayaking. There are also other water sports activities available such as jet skiing and banana boat rides. Koggala is also a great place to watch the sunset!

Peak Season
The peak season in Sri Lanka is from December to March. During this time, the south and west coasts of the country experience the best weather, with plenty of sunshine and low humidity. This is the perfect time to hit the beach and enjoy the crystal-clear waters. Popular resorts like Hikkaduwa and Mirissa are at their most idyllic, but also busiest.
Off-Season
The off-season in Sri Lanka is from May to September. This is when the country experiences the Yala monsoon season, which brings heavy rains to the south and west coasts. While it may not be the best time to hit the beach, it’s a great time to explore the cultural and historical sites of the country. April and March are transitional months between the two monsoons and are generally considered good times to visit Sri Lanka. September is also a good time to visit the east coast of the country, as it experiences the best weather during this time.
